CONTRACT WATCH
The displacements have resulted in a lot of training that starts as pilots shift between aircraft types. With this increase in training, we are seeing an increase in IOE being performed. Previously, DFI was covered by the DFI LOA. It is the Association’s position that with the ratification of the new contract, this LOA is no longer active.
The following language is applicable if you are DFI’d. Section 13.B.2.b. states:
The PBS will award the captain trip pairings first. Shifts (pairings) awarded to captains who are IOE check airmen will not be available for line construction or awarded to first officers. The company will block FO trip pairings for those IOE check airmen which the company reasonably expects will be doing instruction during the bid period. If additional IOE check airmen are needed, then FOs awarded trips with such check airmen will be reassigned per this agreement or released and pay protected.
If the company attempts to reassign you flying, the same conditions still apply as with any other reassignment:
-
There must be no ready reserves available; or,
-
The flight must be in danger of failing to depart within the applicable codeshare partner’s contractual performance parameters, such as D+0 or A+14.
The company currently does not agree with the Association and there is a group grievance (031-09GG) on the issue.
If you are improperly reassigned flying due to a DFI, please file a GIR and include the flying which was on your final bid award and the flying that was assigned to you, so we may add you to the group grievance.
