What is Crew Web check-in, and how does it work?

Checking in for your reserve is only necessary on the first day of a given block of reserve days. The check in process is open from 24 hours prior to your assigned duty on time up until 2 hours prior. According to the contract (Section 12.D.), you need to self-notify of any schedule changes; however the company is NOT allowed to modify your show time. A number of pilots have received e-mails or phone calls from the company stating that they did not check in for a reserve day in the middle of a block of days or that they did not check in when, in fact, they had. These issues were erroneous on the part of crew tracking and appear to have been cleared up.

Am I still required to call crew tracking after my trip?

No. This is no longer is the case. Pilots are NOT required to call crew tracking to get released after a flight assignment. A pilot is only required to be available for contact within the assigned reserve times shown on his/her schedule. As soon as it is past the reserve time shown on your schedule, you are automatically released until your next show time.

Do I still have to bid reserve daily?
Reserve bidding in PBS is a little bit different than when we had set reserve schedules to bid upon. With PBS, you are basically only bidding for days off. During the SAP window (23rd-26th), you have the ability to bid for reserve times (RS1, RS2, etc.), CMF/CML and long call. Prior to the QOL LOA, reserve lines were allowed to be built with 2-6 days of reserve availability; however, during the QOL LOA reserve lines were restricted to 4-6 days of reserve availability. The company at this time has decided to keep this restriction. Your Scheduling Committee and MEC will be attempting to work with the company to get this restriction removed to allow greater flexibility for pilots to build their schedules. We believe that returning to past practice is the right thing to do in this situation. If you have any questions about reserve bidding you can contact one of your reps or the Scheduling Committee at MAGScheduling@alpa.org.
Crew tracking is placing line holders on reserve after a cancellation. Is this allowed?
Crew tracking is attempting to place line holders on reserve when their flights are canceled. For example, you are on a 4-day trip and on day 2 your IAD-LGA-IAD trip cancels. The company is not allowed to place you on reserve. According to our contract, Section 12.E.3., “A pilot whose scheduled trip is canceled and who is placed on reserve status by the Company shall be credited with the greater of four (4) hours reserve credit or block hours flown.” The union's stance is that a “scheduled trip” is the entire pairing, and not portions thereof. Therefore, unless the entire 4-day pairing is canceled, you cannot be placed on reserve.
Is there ready reserve volunteer list, and how can I volunteer for it?

Yes. According to our contract, Section 13.G.7.g., “Ready reserve periods will be posted for bid by reserve pilots and awarded in the same manner as open time. If there are insufficient bidders to cover a ready reserve period(s) then such ready reserve period(s) will be assigned to a reserve pilot in reverse order of seniority among reserve pilots.” Crew Line adjustments has a list of ready reserve volunteers. If you would like to be placed on the list or would like to see a copy of the list, e-mail them at yvcrew@mesa-air.com.
