This is your
MEC chairman, Marcin Kolodziejczyk, with a
brief holiday message for Nov. 23, 2011.
Thanksgiving,
as you know, is a time for us to give thanks
and reflect upon the many blessings in our
lives. The day is traditionally spent with
family and friends watching the Macy’s
Thanksgiving Day parade as well as any
football game on television, and stuffing
ourselves with turkey, mashed potatoes
slathered with gravy, pumpkin pie, and other
holiday favorites.
As pilots,
many of us spend Thanksgiving or a portion
of the long holiday weekend away from home,
working to transport others safely to their
family and friends. Your sacrifices, like
those of our nation’s law enforcement
officers, fire fighters, and others working
in the public safety sector, are very much
appreciated. Thank you for your continued
professionalism and all that you do to
maintain the integrity of our operation.
I also want to
thank our hard-working, dedicated group of
ALPA volunteers who sacrifice their time to
represent your interests. We have had one
heck of a year: our company emerged from
bankruptcy in March 2011, and we began
negotiations for an improved collective
bargaining agreement just two days later.
There have been many challenges along the
way and, if recent industry events are any
indication, there will likely be many more
ahead. Know that we are fully prepared to
defend your rights and will leave no stone
unturned as we work to protect and enhance
the careers of every Mesa pilot. In
addition to negotiating a fair agreement
that recognizes your contributions,
enforcing the contract vigorously, and
promoting a safe environment, we will
continue to encourage the company to recall
pilots at a faster pace to meet the needs of
our operation; our efforts will not cease
until all of our furloughed brothers and
sisters have had an opportunity to return to
Mesa.
Wherever you
are this Thanksgiving, I hope you have a
safe and happy holiday. And for those of you
who will be traveling over the next several
days, please be cognizant of the increasing
loads and plan your commute accordingly.
That’s it for this week. Fly safe!
