UNION COMMITTEES

The work of the pilot group cannot be done by the MEC alone. Numerous hard-working pilot volunteers are dedicated to enhancing the careers of all MAG pilots through aggressive collective bargaining, planning, communication, and unified action. To learn more about our various committees and the work that they do, please refer to the list below.

If you are a MAG pilot interested in volunteering, let us know. Send an email to MAGCommunications@alpa.org with your area of interest, and we will contact you.

  • Central Air Safety ensures that MAG operates at the highest level of safety at all times. It is also responsible for maintaining a high level of readiness to respond in the event of an accident or incident involving any MAG aircraft.

  • Communications coordinates the development and distribution of any and all forms of communication. For example, the committee’s Pilot-to-Pilot® program promotes two-way communications to keep the general membership informed on current issues, answer questions and provide feedback to the MEC.

  • Grievance resolves grievances that occur over differences with the company in interpretation of the contract.

  • Hotel ensures pilots’ facilities, accommodations and transportation while on duty are suitable and in compliance with the contract.

  • Jumpseat oversees all issues pertaining to the use of company flight deck jumpseats.

  • Membership provides information about ALPA to the members through new-hire briefings and meetings at company training facilities. This committee also assists pilots who have been furloughed by the company. Currently, there are 423 MAG pilots on furlough.

  • Merger sets out to achieve the goals detailed in the MEC Policy Manual in the event of a merger with another airline. This committee is not active currently.

  • Negotiations negotiates the pilots’ contract. Once a Tentative Agreement is reached, the MEC determines whether or not it should be sent to the membership for ratification. If the contract is ratified, Negotiations then works to implement the agreement and/or resolve disputes with the company through Letters of Agreement and/or Understanding until the contract becomes amendable. The MAG pilots are in negotiations currently for a new, improved contract.

  • Pilot Assistance promotes members’ professional performance, health and welfare, and when necessary, rehabilitation through drug and alcohol intervention. Areas under the Pilot Assistance Committee include Aeromedical, Critical Incident Response, Human Intervention & Motivation Study, and Professional Standards.

  • Scheduling reviews pilots’ schedules to ensure compliance with the contract and attempts to improve pilots’ quality of life and maximize company efficiency.

  • Strategic Preparedness develops plans and methods to attain the goals of the MEC. The Family Awareness program falls under this committee and works to maintain unity through interaction with pilots and their families.

  • Uniform oversees all issues pertaining to pilots’ uniforms.
